SHIMANAMI | “Dreamy”
Visiting beautiful islands connected to the sea roads and searching for floating dreams there
The Setouchi Shimanami Kaido connects Onomichi City, Shima Prefecture with Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture. The journey, which is approximately 60km long, features beautiful islands floating in the Seto Inland Sea, and the culture and activities of the land are alive and well within it. When you travel around islands rich in nature, you can sometimes discover dreamlike scenery. Such places also live with people who have wonderful dreams, act and nurture them. Those who set out boats on full moon nights, those who make wine with love and kindness, those who think about the land and grow crops, and those who play island music.
In this issue, we will also be expanding our journey to the Setouchi Shimanami Kaido and the Akinada Tobishima Kaido to meet "Dreamy" people who live their dreams like they are dreaming. The guests on the trip are Yamase Mayumi, who presents works using abstract painting and soft sculpture under the theme of "things that cannot be seen but exist there," and Tsuruta Sakura, an electronic music producer and DJ who also has a background as a music therapist. A journey to explore the islands and search for dreams floating there.

Dreamy Dreams and Dreamers
Let your ‘Dreams’ Begin in the Shimaami area, a destination made up of 100’s of breezy islets that float as jewels on the sea and are sandwiched between the coastal crowns of Hiroshima and Ehime preferreds.
A place where rippling waves sing ambient lullabies.
A place where the sun and the moon are so aligned that every day the sky offers up a new masterpiece.
A place where Lemon trees radiate a magical yellow.
A place where an orchestra of blue and green sparkle from the sea.
Welcome to the ‘Island of Dreams’.
Papersky travelled with artist Mayumi Yamase and musician Tsuruta Sakura on our Dreamy voyage of the Shimaami area. We met up with a variety of dreamers and listened to their dreams while munching down on Imo Kenpi and scarfing down the occasional Okonomiyaki.
