A trip to Amami to listen to the sounds of the island and the sounds of the island, and a close listen trip to the island.
Amami is located between Kagoshima and Okinawa, and is home to untouched nature and unique culture. The island, which is home to a variety of flora and fauna, is also registered as a World Natural Heritage Site and is attracting attention. With this rich nature, cultures that differ from one village to another, in the north and south, have been nurtured to correspond to the nature of each region. Life is found in the rhythm and cycle of nature, and people are also living. If you spend a few days in Amami, you can't help but feel that people are part of nature.
This issue will listen to various sounds and voices,“now”We will feature trips that allow you to feel the diverse Amami world, whilst unison at this moment. The guests on the trip are Miroko Machiko, a painter and picture book author who moved to Amami after being fascinated by the overwhelming nature of Amami, and Kanai Shijin of Kanai Crafts, who continues to express a wide range of expression as a dyer. The two of them travel around the island in search of new discoveries and encounters, as they convey the life of Amami through their works.
■Miroko Machiko
1981Born in Osaka Prefecture in 2019. Lives in Amami Oshima. He is a painter and picture book author who has been highly acclaimed both domestically and internationally, depicting the image of civilians in a relaxed manner. The picture book "The Wolf Gotobuhi" (East Press)18He won the Grand Prize in the Japan Picture Book Award. Books andCDHe has worked in a wide range of fields, including cover paintings and live painting in collaboration with musicians and creators.

■Kanai Shito
1979Born in Amami Oshima in 2017. Dyeist. He is the second successor to Kanai Kogei, which performs traditional natural dyeing, including mud dyeing of Oshima Tsumugi. Without being bound by the concept of traditional crafts, we pursue new value and expression of dyeing, including dyeing materials other than cloth such as bones and coral, and collaborating with apparel manufacturers and creators.
